You must work through each level in order.Primary: It is advisable to have some experience of Kodály inspired education prior to beginning this course e.g. BKA Foundation Course and to have Level 2 Musicianship or equivalent. You must work through each level in order.Secondary: It is advisable to have a musical background and to have some knowledge of solfa prior to beginning this course e.g. Level 1 or 2 Musicianship or equivalent. You must work through each level in order. Do I have to register for the whole course?No, this course is completely modular. Each module is free standing. You don’t need to have an intention to complete the certificate and you only pay for the modules as you book them. Do I have to complete the modules within a set period of time? Generally there is no requirement to complete modules within a set period of time. However, please note the following information: From April 2023, there will be a requirement to complete one specific module of the course in-person, by attending a BKA Summer School or other designated live event incorporating that module. The in-person modules are: For Early Years – Level 2 Methodology, Repertoire & Teaching Techniques; For Primary and Secondary – Level 3 Methodology, Repertoire & Teaching Techniques. Students who embarked upon their BKA Certificate of Professional Practice before April 2023, under the original terms as stated on our website, may continue under those terms with the proviso that all modules are completed by April 2024. Will I be assessed?If you wish to use the module as a credit towards the certificate then the assessment will be completed as part of the module. However, you can attend the courses without being assessed if you prefer. What do I get for completing a module or level?You will receive a certificate for the successful completion of the course and assessments for each module, and also at the successful completion of each level.In order to receive the full “British Kodály Certificate of Professional Practice in the Kodály Concept of Music Education,” you will need to complete all three levels in either the Early Years, Primary or Secondary strands. Do I have to start from Level 1?Not necessarily. If you have prior knowledge greater than the entry requirements for the course, speak to Lucinda Geoghegan on [email protected] and she will be able to advise. My musicianship level is higher than required, what should I do?It’s important that you progress your musicianship throughout your studies. There is no need to do that at the advertised level if you have already surpassed that. You should study at your own higher level if that’s more appropriate for you. I don’t have the pre-requisites, what can I do?We have a Foundation Course aimed at those with little or no previous musical training or those who are completely new to Kodály Inspired Music Education. You will go away equipped with ideas to use immediately in your teaching and receive an introduction to the Kodály Approach. We also have entry-level Musicianship Classes online, to help you work towards BKA Musicianship Level 2. How much does each module cost? Methodology, Repertoire and Teaching Techniques: £219 for each 24-hour course delivered over 12 weekly online sessions. Vocal Technique: £94 for one Vocal Technique module of 10 hours, delivered over 10 weekly online sessions. This module must be completed as part of the full certificate course. Conducting: £94 per module for two Conducting modules of 10 hours each, to be completed as part of the full certificate course.
