British Kodály Certificate

BKA Certificate of Professional Practice in the Kodály Concept of Music Education is only available at our Summer Schools, which includes a short online module before the course commences.

Who can attend this course?
Early Years: It is advisable to have some experience of Kodály inspired education prior to beginning this course e.g. BKA Introduction to Kodály Course or equivalent and some musical knowledge. You can work through the levels in any order.

Primary: It is advisable to have some experience of Kodály inspired education prior to beginning this course e.g. BKA Introduction To Kodály Course and to have Level 2 Musicianship or equivalent. You must work through each level in order.

Secondary: It is assumed you have a musical background. You must work through each level in order.

Will I be assessed?
Assessments will be completed throughout the course. However, you can attend the courses without being assessed if you prefer.

What do I get for completing a level?
You will receive a certificate for the successful completion of the course at each level.
In order to receive the full “British Kodály Certificate of Professional Practice in the Kodály Concept of Music Education,” you will need to complete all three levels in either the Early Years, Primary or Secondary strands. You will need to provide evidence of completion of all three levels to apply for the full certification.

Do I have to start from Level 1?
Not necessarily. If you have prior knowledge greater than the entry requirements for the course, speak to Lucinda Geoghegan on [email protected] and she will be able to advise.

My musicianship level is higher than required, what should I do?
It’s important that you progress your musicianship throughout your studies. There is no need to do that at the advertised level if you have already surpassed that. You should study at your own higher level if that’s more appropriate for you.

I don’t have the pre-requisites, what can I do?
We have a Introduction To Kodály Course aimed at those with little or no previous musical training or those who are completely new to Kodály Inspired Music Education. You will go away equipped with ideas to use immediately in your teaching and receive an introduction to the Kodály Approach.

We also have entry-level Musicianship Classes online, to help you work towards BKA Musicianship Level 2.

Certificate Course Tutor Team:
Allan Hubert-Wright, Árpád Tóth, Ben Lawrence, Carole Wileman, Dominic Harlan, Helen Blackmore, James Cuskelly, and Lucinda Geoghegan.

Musicianship: Please click here to find out more about our Musicianship courses.
