This book seeks to develop both conscious musical knowledge and knowledge of the cello by means that are practical, theoretical and pictorial, link relative solfa with absolute pitch and develop the inner ear.
Many expressive and imaginative ideas can be developed through playing scales. They need not be approached as mere technical exercises for the left hand: bowing techniques can be developed and, through the use of the bow, coupled with a sense of the poetic quality of the intervals, shifts and arching phrases, the heart is engaged.
